What is the difference between the Institut Français and the Alliance Française?
The Institut Français is the cultural service of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Alliance Française is a private foundation, which takes the form of an association in foreign territories: there are Alliances Françaises almost everywhere, the French Institutes, internationally, are rarer. Their parent companies are in Paris.
